PubMed Central (PMC) is a life-sciences journal literature database established in February 2000 by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). It preserves the full text of major life-science research articles and provides free public access. NCBI is also the creator of GenBank and PubMed. Every PMC full-text article has a corresponding record in PubMed; when searching PubMed, items with free full text available online include links to the PMC version.
Current coverage (as provided):
- 2,845 journals indexed in PMC in total, including:
- 972 journals fully archived (all articles included, with possible embargoes),
- 301 journals from which NIH-funded articles are deposited,
- 1,572 journals offering selective article deposits;
- 2.3 million full-text articles preserved.
