Library FAQ

1. Can I lend my library card to someone else?
No. Your library card is for your personal use only. You will be held fully responsible for any violations or penalties incurred if the card is used by another person.

 

2. How can external visitors use the library's resources?
Currently, our library services are not available to external visitors or the public.

 

3. How many times can a book be renewed?
A borrowed book can be renewed once for an additional 30 days, provided no other patron has placed a hold on it. Overdue books cannot be renewed. New books acquired within the current year may be renewed once for a two-week period.

 

4. How can I check my loan status and due dates?
You can check your personal loan information and due dates via the campus network. Steps: Go to the “Library homepage” -> “My Library”. Follow the prompts to complete "Registration". Once registered, log in to "My Library" to view your loan status and due dates.

 

5. How do I request a book from another campus, and how do I return it?
You can borrow books from both the Shunde Campus Library and the Main Campus Library in two ways: First, you can visit the other campus in person with your student card to borrow and return books. Second, you can use the "Request" function in the catalog search. Books borrowed from either campus can be returned to any campus library.

 

6. How should I handle books due during winter or summer vacation?
Books due for return during official winter or summer breaks should be returned within the first week after the new semester begins.

 

7. Why can't I find a book on the shelf that the catalog shows as "Available"?
Possible reasons include:
Please verify you are searching in the correct collection location (Which campus? Which stack area?).
The book might be in use by another patron within the library or has been misplaced on a shelf.
The item could be damaged and undergoing repairs, thus not available on the shelf.
The book has been recently returned and is awaiting reshelving.
The item may be missing, potentially stolen.

 

8. What should I pay attention to when borrowing books?
Check books carefully for any damage or missing pages before borrowing; if found, please ask staff to stamp the item. While the staff processes your loan, please watch the screen to verify the borrowed book information and your personal details are correct, and take note of the due date.

 

9. What are the consequences of having overdue books?
The consequences are: You must return all overdue books before you can borrow new items. A late fee will be charged for overdue books according to library regulations.

 

10. How can I get copies of library materials?
The library provides self-service multi-function machines (for photocopying, printing, and scanning). Payment is required via card swipe.

 

11. Who should I contact if I have problems using the library?
You can: Visit the Circulation Desk, any service desk in the stacks, or the Circulation & Reading Department office to ask staff in person. Leave a message on the "Message Board" on the library homepage. Interact with the library via QQ, WeChat, or Weibo. Find more contact information via the "Contact Us" section on the library homepage.

 

12. What are the library's opening hours?
The library is open daily from 8:00 to 22:00. Opening hours during public holidays will be announced separately.

 

13. How can I claim lost personal items?
The library maintains a Lost & Found cabinet. Please go to the Circulation Desk to inquire and retrieve items.

 

14. What are the operating hours for the air conditioning?
In the Main Campus Library, the central AC is managed by the Utilities Team. It is generally operational from May to October, depending on weather conditions. The Shunde Campus Library follows a similar schedule, with specific operating times and zones determined by weather and patron numbers.

 

15. What is the difference between borrowing and in-library use?
"Borrowing" means you can both read the item in the library and take it out on loan. "In-library use" means the material can only be used within the library premises and cannot be borrowed for outside use.

 

16. How do I use "My Library"?
Any user who has obtained a "Campus Card" and activated its library functions can use "My Library". Log in using your primary campus network username and password.

 

17. How can I check the due dates for my borrowed books or view my loan status online?
You can check the due dates for your borrowed books via: Library homepage -> My Library. Then follow the prompts to view your information.

 

18. How can I find the specific location ("Collection Location") of a book?
Steps to check the "Collection Location": Library homepage -> Catalog Search -> Enter the book title -> Click on the title -> View "Collection Location".

 

19. What is the compensation process for lost borrowed books or periodicals?
To promote care for library materials and responsible borrowing, the library has established provisional compensation rules, covering late fees, damage fees, and loss fees. According to the "Rules for Book Compensation", we prefer that you replace the lost item with an identical copy, plus pay a 5 RMB processing fee. If an identical copy cannot be purchased, compensation is based on the current value of the item.
